Summer Reading Reviews
So I have been doing some reading this summer, since I never get to much in the school year and here is what I have read and any recommendations:
1. And the Shofar Blew… by Francine Rivers
Good book, a long book so its good for like long car rides, and it is a fast read because, like most of Francine Rivers books, you get really caught up in it and want to finish it. If you are an attached female, make sure that you don’t take out any frustration you feel over the husband’s behavior in the book, on those males you love.
2. The Scarlett Thread by Francine Rivers (anyone sensing a theme here? I read Redeeming Love by Francine Rivers a while back and loved it so much I bought some more of her books)
This was disappointing for Francine’s writing. Maybe it was because I had just read ANd the Shofar Blew, because they are very similar plots. So don’t read them at the same time. Also there is not the same amount of faith-based story in this one as the others, not that that is bad for a book, just an observation of something different from the other two I read.
3. The Essential 55 by Ron Clark
This is a teacher book or for anyone who works with children really. It is written by a teacher who got the Disney AMerican Teacher Award or soemthing like that. He taught in a rural poor NC school and then in Harlem and has great ideas about classroom management and teaching kids basic life skills, because alot of his students don’t really get that at home. It is very inspriational and I really enjoyed it. It is also a pretty quick read. It goes through the 55 rules he developed for his students and tells stories explaining them all. He is coming to speak at convocation for MIdway ISD so I am excited to hear him in person!
4. The Jane Austen Book Club by Karen Jay Fowler
I really like Jane Austen books and this is a recent best seller, so I bought it. It was good although I don’t agree morally with one part of the book and that made me probably not want to read it again. It looked at the lives of each of the members of this book club, all the while discussing each of Austen’s books. It was not terribly exciting but it did make me want to start a book club. So maybe I will
If only books weren’t so expensive!
5. Help Your Man Get Healthy by Maria Kassberg Regan and Steven Jonas M.D.
I read this not so much just to help Cliff get healthy
but me too. It is really good with nutritional info and helpful suggestions about how to get more fruit and veggies into your diet and what to look for at the grocery store. I recommend this one if you would like your family or even yourself to be in better health
So everyone, go read a book!
