One week down…how many to go????

26 August 2005

I have never loved Fridays so much! It feels so nice to be done with my first full week of teaching. It has had its moments but overall it has been wonderful!! Aside from the whole school-sleep-school-sleep-repeat thing. Oh and to add to that… last night I came home, talked to Cliff, planned to cook a yummy chicken alfredo home bake that the nice people at Betty Crocker so smartly invented, go to target :-D , visit Jan at the hospital and all kinds of fun sociable stuff. My head hurt so I laid down at 5 to take a nap and make my headache go away. I woke up at at 11. And I was very confused. I sleepily drug myself into the office and asked Cliff, “Have we eaten yet?” Because I knew I had planned to make and eat dinner, so I wasn’t sure if I missed all that or what. He had eaten. And gone to Target :( So he proceeded to try to take me to Sonic to eat, they were closed, and so I had McDonalds at like 11:30 last night. Wow. So much for sociable nice evening…
But back to school. My kids are basically all good. Besides 5th period talking, I have some really good kids. They must have decided to be nice to the team with 3 new teachers. (2 new to the school, and me- new to it all) We do have alot of new kids tho. Which means they come from alll kindss of backgrounds. Anyway, I got S/T to stop talking today, used my beanbag, didnt look at an overhead all day, my kids understood stuff, I’m carpooling to save money, I finally met the other “Truett wife” teacher who is also young and very fun, and I wore jeans and my reef flipflops today. So all is well. :) Have a lovely weekend!

So just what does it take to get your blog noticed I wonder? Like how blogger puts blogs on the “blogs we have noticed lately” thing.
Well I have made it a record night so far. It is 9:16 and I am still awake, though barely. Lately, all I have done is go to school, and sleep. Wake up and go to school again. Then more sleep. My head has been one big fog since like Sunday night and Monday and Tuesday were semi-feverish, so I have come home only to crash. Last night it was 7:30. And how sad that even though I went to bed then, I get up so early that I still didn’t manage to sleep 12 whole hours. One day perhaps my life will return.

Being New

22 August 2005

Being new is interesting. I hadn’t been that for a while until August started. I was the one who was the greeter and welcomer to the new ones. Its so interesting to see how things prepare you though. For example, if we had never changed churches in 9th grade, I would have never ended up at a church like I did, or probably at a place like Baylor. And even tho I didnt like my first time there, I kept coming back. I don’t think you can ever really like your first time somewhere. Oh I guess you can because sometimes people just have a peace about places, but I don’t think it works that way for me. I am always anxious at first. I guess because maybe I don’t do change very well, that God knows that it just takes me time to get used to things. So I finally stopped being new at school, kinda, and now I am having to be new at church. At least I’m not new in a totally new town. I already know where walmart is :) and Target :)

On another note, I have the greatest husband on the face of the planet. Now, any married reading females might want to dispute that, but Cliff is so great. Here are some reasons of late why I say this:

  1. He sent me BeAUTIFUl flowers on my first day of school.
  2. He took me out to eat where I wanted to go.
  3. He cooked dinner the next night.
  4. He bought groceries.
  5. He washed dishes several times.
  6. He did laundry.
  7. He took me to HEB to get cookie dough and ice cream when I really wanted to make my own version of Cookie Monster from Cheddar’s because I was too full to order one the day before when we ate there (see #2).
  8. He sent me a card in the mailbox.
  9. And he loves me. And thats just great.

I love you Cliff. You are priceless!

The first two days

19 August 2005

The first two days of teaching have been good but extremely tiring. The kids are very sweet. There have been no problems or discipline issues so far. I really dont have the energy to say much but its been good!

I have moved up from hanging out with the new teachers to hanging out with all the teachers. Yesterday we had Convocation, which is the fancy word for the kick-off-the-year event for all the district people. The speaker was great! Go to www.ronclark.info if you want to be inspired :) In the afternoon, we had a faculty mtg at the intermediate school. I like our principal who is new to the school but not to the district. I had to leave early, which felt so wierd, to go get Cliff from the hospital from his colonoscopy, which you can read about on his blog. It went well, I guess…as well as that can go. :) He is feeling better today but still a little groggy. Today was not very exciting… we had training about the TEKS, which, in case you are not an educator, is bascially what tells teachers in the state of Texas what to teach for the TAKS test. Needless to say, it was not very beneficial. But after that I went to my room and got some stuff done from the “to-do” list I made during today’s training. :) I really like my room and I think I have somehow stopped worrying and started getting more confident and getting excited. I have realized that with me, meeting new people, it takes a while to warm up, but like by the end of lunch today, I was talking to the five lovely ladies I ate with as much as they were. It was really nice. So yay for school and nice co-workers and a nice room! Pictures still to come!
