Gracie and Gracie

10 October 2006

Today Gracie met another dog named Gracie. She is white. They had fun. And her owner had on a superman shirt. Go figure. Today at school was okay but I ended up staying til 6:30 doing stuff since I didn’t actually get to work on anything beneficial to me personally until 4 when our professional development was over. I know the point of today is to learn things, and I did learn a few good things, but I could be much more effective professionally if they allowed us to get our own junk done on days like this instead of making us go to sessions. So when I finally left school, I left everything there and came home wanting to enjoy a walk to the pond. My wonderful husband had dinner ready so we ate (he had also bought me flowers!) and then took Gracie for a walk. There were lots of dogs out since it was close to being dark. At the pond we saw the other Gracie with her owner. Not until a little girl came out to play with the doggies did they get together. This little girl probably knows every dog in the complex because she lives out by the pond where they all go and she always goes up to the dogs and plays with them. So we talked to the other Gracie’s dad while the girls played. It was fun and now I am enjoying doing nothing. :)

Thanks for checking back in with me even though I haven’t blogged in a long time. We have had internet problems and so blogger sometimes doesn’t work quite right. We got a new router, but that hasn’t fixed the problem quite yet. Grrr…

On another note, we visited another church this weekend. Our friend from college’s parents go there so we had lunch with them afterward and went with them to their homegroup that night. The house we went to was on “Lusk Lane” ironically. Apparently someone named Lusk was a founder of that community. This house was crazy big, like 6000 square feet and on a giant lot. Very pretty too. We also bought some flowers to put on our porch this weekend. We went to Lowe’s for something entirely different, but I saw the flowers and thought, “maybe they have a cheap plant with pretty flowers that I can put on the porch to look pretty.” In looking around at plants, I thought of this one plant (that Lindsey has in faux form on her porch) that I really like. So I proceed to ask the saleslady if they have any. She shows me some on the 50% off rack and I find out that, although they look kinda pitiful, they are only $3 something so I decide to get them. That leads to getting a planter box, potting soil, and some other filler plants, pansies, and stock. Well after I get home, I realize that I asked the lady for begonias, when the plant that I really wanted was geraniums! I know what the flower looks like that I wanted and this plant wasn’t flowering currently. I didn’t remember what the stems and leaves looked like and I can never remember the name of geraniums. So I got a totally different plant than I wanted! Oh well, maybe this one will be nice too, if I can revive it from its sad state. And when spring comes, I will get a geranium. I have heard they are easy to keep alive and flowering, so that is always a good thing for me.
This is a geranium.

This is what I got…a begonia.

Well…I tried to upload pictures. Blogger is dumb. So click the links.

Steak N Shake

7 October 2006

We had a new dining experience tonight. We ate at Steak N Shake. No, it is not a member of the corporation which produces the product Shake and Bake “and I helped…”, even though that is what it makes me think of. It is a restaurant/fast food place. I include the / because you sit down and they bring your food, or you can order it to go. But it is definitely fast food quality. Think Denny’s specializing in burgers. And very thin ones at that. And very thin fries. And a shake that wasn’t that good. It tasted too much like chocolate syrup, not even real chocolate ice cream. Needless to say, I was not thrilled with my dining experience. Especially since it cost about $16 since we had to tip. We could have had even expensive Quizno’s for that price. And a few less calories.

We are settled now in our new town. Well, city. Our apartment is pretty cozy, and quiet, so it doesn’t feel city-ish. It is crazy the amount of stuff up here. You could drive over an hour in either direction before you go to really open country. The nice surprise I have had though is that there are pockets of undeveloped land. It is always nice to see a random field of cows grazing. Or a trailer park in the middle of one of the biggest metroplexes in the country. We have a lovely pond complete with ducks and turtles right in our back yard.

I would love to keep writing, but it is 9:47 on a Friday night and I am going downhill quick after my shake high is wearing off. School makes me too tired to enjoy the first night of my weekend. But Monday is a staff day, so nice and quiet with no kiddoes around. :) Have a nice weekend.
