A Week Off!

20 November 2006

Yipeeeee a wonderful week off! :)

So the other day…our microwave exploded! Not that we heard it or anything, but Cliff noticed that the tray was cracked and then looked under it and the rotating things has exploded and there was black char marks everywhere and the glass rotating plate was cracked! The maintence guys were even surprised about how it could have happened. We don’t know why or when this happened, but today we got a really nice new microwave! And the old one was already nice, the kind with the vent over the stove, but this one is super snazzy.

I did a little moving purge when we were unpacking, putting some things in a box for goodwill that I didn’t want to take up space in our new apt. Today, 10 or so weeks later, I finally took the boxes to goodwill and got them out of our guest room. I took out a few things to use as white elephant gifts. :) wha.ha.ha.

I absolutely love banana bread and cheezits/cheese nips. Not together. But by themselves. And usually you can only find banana bread with nuts (in a mix). But last week I found some without nuts at the tom thumb by our apt and it is so good! We have eaten it in about two days. I just had the last piece. We also managed to eat a box of cheese nips in about the same two day span. :) I confess, I am part mouse.

I am feeling overwhelmed by scrapbooking. I bought the book and paper and printed some pictures from our summer trip…but where do I start? What pictures do I put together? What do I use to accent the pictures? What paper goes with what set of pictures? Do I put lots of pictures on a page or make it really artsy with just one or two pictures? Help!

I am in need of some good reading ideas. I finished the two series that I was working on. Today I just wandered aimlessly at the library and managed to get some stuff: an Agatha Christie, a Barbara Kingsolver novel that is a sequel to the one I just read, the last of the Mark of the Lion series by Francine Rivers, and Shopgirl by Steve Martin (yes, the father of the bride steve martin writes books. “the pleasure of my company” is also good). I need something with a good story line, it can be religious or not. I tried reading one of the shopaholic books, because i heard someone else liked them, but it seemed really shallow to read about a girl who puts inordinate amounts of money out for things like scarves, and who has a crazy debt on her credit card when I already struggle with wanting to always buy more stuff. So if you have any good book suggestions, series or authors or anything, pass them on :)

And now that I have talked about five totally random things, I am going to go bug my husband who is playing xbox…

Is anyone still checking in??

12 November 2006

I know, its been forever. But I haven’t felt like I had much to blog about/hadn’t had the energy to write something. Sorry! Thanks to any faithful who remain and who are checking in occasionally.

Ok, what has happened since I last posted. Well last weekend I went to Canton and met my friend Erin there with some ladies from her church in Arkansas. It was the big first monday trade days and it is crazy! So many people, so many cars, and so much shopping to be done. I didn’t buy that much, but I did get a package of some really yummy ranch dip that I am not going to share! And I got a very pretty cobalt blue bottle to go in mykitchen with my red and blue theme. I also got Cliff and I some knock-off sunglasses. He had some really nice Oakely ones that he found at the softball field in college that he liked and unfortunatly he lost them in Turkey. That or James stole them. :) He had gone to see how much new oneswould cost…they are about $170!!! I don’t understand why anyone would pay that much for sunglasss! Especially when you will just probably loose them or scratch them up! Anyway, they had knockoffs that looked like his and I got some too that are fake Brighton looking. So Canton was fun and I would recommend going there. I would love to go again and it is only about an hour from here so that is nice.

This weekend my parents came up on Friday and left yesterday. A quick but good visit. We went out to eat at a seafood place in Grapevine which wasn’t that good. And then we walked around Grapevine Mills mall. That place is pretty cool. And only 15 minutes from our house. We are surrounded by fun shopping.

In the middle of those weekends (I live for weekends!) was school. I had lots of late nights this week, with planning/grading to do, staying late one night with other teachers to finish stuff for the end of the six weeks, and a three hour professional development make up session for something that was held this summer before I got hired, and while I was out of the country. I have already been to three of these things, and I still have one more. With time change happeneing, I never get home in the day light anymore! We used to walk Gracie to the pond
when I got home from school, but now it is usually dark! And I am not a fan of cold weather! It was nice at first to dig out all these clothes that I hadn’t seen in eight months or so, but now I am just tired of being cold. Maybe I will move to Hawaii! :)

To anyone out there who is planning to be a teacher, let me just say, it is not as easy as you think it will be. I am having a hard time now with school. It is easy to get frustrated with yourself when your kids don’t do as well as you want them to and when you can’t seem to figure out discipline. I know God will use this time to teach me and I know he has put me here for a reason but right now it just stinks part of the time. I don’t want to complain more, but I had to say it because it is what is going on right now. But…one more week, and then a whole glorious week off for Thanksgiving!!!! :)

And now that I have entered my grades and rewarded myself with blogging….I am going to go lay on the couch! :)
