Ice Skating!

29 January 2007

Cliff got me an awesome birthday present…tickets to see “Stars On Ice“. We went today and it was wonderful. We got good seats and it was so neat to see in person people that I have always watched on TV. Unfortunately, due to the no flash rule, and the dark, and the fact that they go fast…I didn’t get too many good pictures, but here are two. In the second picture, Ekaterina Gordeeva is the middle girl. I love her!

While I was getting pictures off my camera, I saw these.
This is from the snow we had.

And last but not least, a hilarious picture of Gracie. I was taking a picture of her, and she sneezed…and the result made me laugh so hard I was crying.

Icy Weekend Weather

16 January 2007

Pictures make posts more fun. Since I don’t have any pictures from the weather of this weekend, here is a picture of a Valentine’s day my junior year of Baylor when Lydia and I played in the snow!

This weekend we went to Waco. Well, Cliff had already been there since Thursday for meetings, but I went Friday after school and came back today. He comes back hopefully tomorrow, or Wednesday. I wasn’t sure ifI would be able to drive back since the weather was so wild and crazy for all us warm-weather Texans. As I marveled at cars with icicles hanging off the tire wells I thought of my friend Missy who is from Pennsylvania who is used to driving not only in ice but in snow! Really when I got out on the road, I found that the ice was nothing compared to what I had built it up to be in my head, sitting in the warm Gohring’s house listening to the doomsday weather forcasters on tv who warn against impending bodily and vehicular damage if one were so ignorant as to venture out. There was some slushy mud some places where leftover ice had melted with the sand. And occasionally large chunks of ice would fly off of someone’s car. However, due to something hitting my windsheid on the trip down on Friday, and the extreme cold last night…we will probably have to get me a new windshield since the existing crack is now bigger.

The Gohring’s were gracious to let us stay with them. They are so wonderful and we always have a good time hanging out with them. Sunday night we went to Poppa Rollo’s pizza. I love their pizza. Especially the heart shaped pizzas. Cliff and I had that for our first anniversary of dating. One time when we were there I filled out a comment card, so once every month or so, I get a good coupon there. Usually it is buy one medium pizza, get one free. So this way, we can order one for ourselves, and feed Scott with the other one. Although I apparently gave him a run for his money in amount eaten.

Speaking of which, I just took a break to go make dinner. (well, put it in the oven to bake) We don’t have any “convenience” foods in our house right now. So I made a chicken and rice thingy. It was from a recipe I found on allrecipes.com which is very helpful because you can do an ingredient search, and even list ingredients you don’t want included. For example, since it is cold, I decided to make a warm thing, and all we have for meat is chicken breasts and ground turkey. And I knew we have regular rice, not minute rice, and cream of ___ soups. So I put chicken, rice and cream of mushroom soup into the search, and in the “ingredients you don’t want” section, I put minute rice. You can even alter the recipes by putting in how many servings you want, and it will increase it or decrease it to meet how many people you are going to feed. Nifty, eh?

I got to watch a little bit of Oprah today, and her nutritionist/trainer/neighbor Bob Greene has a new “best life” diet/exercise plan/thingy. Its name is a little too Joel Osteenish to me, but it sounds like a good plan. It’s not too harsh and concentrates on life change in the way you view food and exercise, not a binge diet that won’t work for very long. It goes through phases, the third of which you can eat whatever you want, just in moderation and fit in with all the other good healthy things. It includes a shopping list and you can see “best life approved” seals on foods that they are supporting for being healthy. I am usually the bad one of the family when it comes to eating junk. Cliff has been good lately with his trips the grocery store, buying lots of fruits and not much junk. I know that my metabolism is going to slow down one of these days and I am going to regret not training myself better in the eating healthy department. The site has some recipes too. One recipe that I want to try is a Chocolate Strawberry smoothie.

Well, time to go enjoy the remote all to myself! :)
