Goings On

22 October 2007

Here’s a picture of us from Cliff’s grandad’s 80th birthday party this summer.

A few weeks ago, my car Weezer officially hit the 100,000 mark. I kid you not, it was on the 100,000 mile mark when I was near a Sonic, so of course I had to commemorate the occasion with something from my favorite fast food restaurant.

My lovely friend Stephanie (on the left) just had a baby a few weeks ago. On my day off last Monday, I got to go see precious Madeline. She is so sweet and pretty!

This weekend we went to my parents house to help them work on their garage that my dad is building. So mom, dad, cliff, my uncle and I all managed to put up half of the trusses (8) in the top of the garage. It was hard work (for them more than me) but it looks nice and will be so great when it is done. It was a lovely day!

And that is what we have been doing lately!

I love you Cliff!

1. Who is your man?
Cliff (the big red dog)
2. How long have you been together?
5 years
3. How long did you date?
10 months (engaged 11 months, married 3 years)
4. How old is your man?
29
5. Who eats more?
Its a tossup. Once when we were first dating, we went to Wendy’s and I ordered a burger meal and then an extra thing of chicken nuggets and ate it all. He didn’t know what he was getting himself into!
6. Who said “I love you” first?
He did.
7. Who is taller?
Cliff but not by much :)
8. Who sings better?
Cliff. When we first met he was singing in Praise Team, I miss that I don’t get to hear him be musical much anymore.
9. Who is smarter?
Depends.
10. Whose temper is worse?
Neither of us have much of a temper.
11. Who does the laundry?
We both do. He doesn’t like to hang the clothes up, so he is happy to do the other part.
12. Who takes out the garbage?
Cliff does but usually I ask him to, he doesn’t notice it himself.
13. Who sleeps on the right side of the bed?
Right side if you are in it, or looking at it. If you are looking at it, I do, because it is away from the door. He has to be near the door so he can protect me from boogie men. (Who might try to steal me after severing my axles…)
14. Who pays the bills?
Cliff mostly, he pays them online, but I have been doing it a few times. I usually write/mail the checks.
15. Who is better with the computer?
Well since Cliff was on Geek Squad, I would have to say him. But I am pretty handy with it myself.
16. Who mows the lawn?
Lazaro mows the lawn until Steve G. gives back our lawn mower.
17. Who cooks dinner?
Well I am supposed to, theoretically. I don’t as often as I should.
18. Who drives when you are together?
Cliff is my chauffer. I would rather not drive. And he would rather take his own route.
19. Who pays when you go out?
Cliff usually
20. Who is most stubborn?
Oh gosh…this is a tossup. I didn’t even know I was stubborn until I got married.
21. Who is the first to admit when they are wrong?
See above. Usually we just stop arguing rather than say who is wrong.
22. Whose parents do you see the most?
Mine, we live closer to them now.
23. Who kissed who first?
I’m a lady…who do you think? (Good answer, Linds)
24. Who asked who out?
We did lots of stuff together that wasn’t really anyone asking anyone out, but he did ask me out for the first big thing, a Third Day concert.
25. Who proposed?
Cliff
26. Who is more sensitive?
Definitely me.
27. Who has more friends?
We have a lot of the same friends.
28. Who has more siblings?
I have none, Cliff does. He has a younger brother and sister.
29. Who wears the pants in the family?
Well we both own pants, but metaphorically speaking, Cliff does. This reminds me of a home group discussion and sermon from a few weeks ago.

I have my name back.

7 October 2007

I have a name. At work, it is Mrs. -insert last name-. That is what it has said in previous years on my door. This year, due to some crazy fire code rules which state that nothing “flammable” may be within 3 feet of the door (oh that a school could be allowed to worry about this because of a lack of other more pressing things to worry about) it says my name on my desk, visible from the doorway. And this year, I actually get to hear this name about 100 times a day. It is no longer just “Miss”. I have my full name back. This is not a celebration really. Just an interesting observation. Back in my day of school, we always called our teachers by name. But in previous schools, that has not been the case, and while some teachers would make it an issue, telling the kids that since they wouldn’t like being called “girl” or “boy” or “kid”, the proper title and last name should be used. But I have always decided not to pick that battle and I am just usually glad the student wants my attention, hopefully to ask an academic question. So I got used to answering to “Miss”. And it was kinda funny to me, not a bother. But this year I actually get the whole name. And I get the stumble- when kids that have only recently graduated from elementary (where they only have one teacher) to middle school (where they now have 7)- have to try to remember my name. I get Mrs. Lloyd a lot, I guess some teacher that I have yet to meet bears that name and teaches 6th graders. Is it something to do with respect I wonder? Or is it an emphasis on the importance of school, verses a social place where you might get your best meals of the day? Or is it that they are younger and more polite? It is kind of nice to get my full name used. But then there was still something sweet about thinking of my last year’s kids saying “Miss”. I’ll take it either way.
