10 years ago:

  • I was an eighth grader. We were the big kids at school and it was fun. I was in a couple of plays that year. Yes I was basically a nerd but a nerd who had fun with her other nerd friends. :)

Things on my to do list today:

  • Research election candidates. (How can you really ever know the truth about these guys?)
  • Grade tests.
  • Make an apple pie.
  • Plan an activity for TAKS tutoring

What would I do if I was suddenly became a Billionaire?

  • Pay off loans. Quit and have a kid. Take a vacation with all my friends. Give lots away and save some for the rest of life so we didn’t have to work anymore unless we wanted to.

 Three of my bad habits:

  1. Worrying
  2. Using chapstick/biting my lips
  3. Slouching

 Five jobs I have had:

  1. 6th grade math teacher
  2. 8th grade math teacher
  3. work study
  4. summer program teacher
  5. day care worker. Yeah, I can’t seem to get away from kids…

Five things people don’t know about me:

Hmmm… I don’t know what yall know and what yall don’t so here are five things.

  1. I had never flown on a plane until my sophomore year of college.
  2. I was in the Baylor Riding Association my freshman year and rode a horse maybe once.
  3. I had a big fat orange fluffy cat named Honey when I was little. He was a great cat!
  4. I really like the color red.
  5. My car’s name is Wheezer, like “Wheeza” in Steel Magnolias, because when I turn it off it makes a wheezing noise. My roommates could always tell when I was home because they could hear my car outside.

I tag: Lindsey, Lydia, and Leigh Ann – Have fun!

Whoa buddy…

For all you teacher folk out there

14 February 2008

Someone sent me this today and I thought it was funny and many of y’all might appreciate some of these….

YOU KNOW YOU ARE A TEACHER WHEN:

  1. You can hear 25 voices behind you and know exactly which one belongs to the child out of line.
  2. You get a secret thrill out of laminating something.
  3. You walk into a store and hear the words “It’s Ms/Mr. _________” and know you have been spotted.
  4. You have 25 people that accidentally call you Mom/Dad at one time or another.
  5. You can eat a multi-course meal in under twenty-five minutes.
  6. You’ve trained yourself to go to the bathroom at two distinct times of the day: lunch and prep period.
  7. You start saving other people’s trash, because most likely, you can use that toilet paper tube or plastic butter tub for something in the classroom.
  8. You believe the teachers’ lounge should be equipped with a margarita smoothie machine.
  9. You want to slap the next person who says “Must be nice to work 7 to 3 and have summers off.”
  10. You believe chocolate is a food group.
  11. You can tell if it’s a full moon without ever looking outside.
  12. You believe that unspeakable evils will befall you if anyone says “Boy, the kids sure are mellow today.”
  13. You feel the urge to talk to strange children and correct their behavior when you are out in public.
  14. You believe in aerial spraying of Ritalin. (I don’t really but its funny.)
  15. You think caffeine should be available in intravenous form.
  16. You spend more money on school stuff than you do on your own children.
  17. You can’t pass the school supply aisle without getting at least five items!
  18. You find true beauty in a can full of perfectly sharpened pencils.
  19. You are secretly addicted to hand sanitizer and finally,
  20. You understand instantaneously why a child behaves a certain way after meeting his or her parents.

Little Shopping Carts are so fun!

9 February 2008

I love shopping with these little guys at HEB!

It is so much fun to go in with a small list and get what is on the list and only need one of these. I hate maneuvering a big buggy around, especially with a large pack of water bottles weighing down the bottom! I have a very full pantry and fridge right now. I don’t know why exactly. I think because often earlier this year, I would go to the store because I knew I needed meals. I wouldn’t have a list but, while walking around the store I would brainstorm what meals I could make for the upcoming week, and I would buy those things. But often I didn’t make those meals. We would end up going to someone’s house, or going out to eat with someone, or I would just be lazy and suggest McDonald’s or something like that. So the bottles of spaghetti sauce and the giant bags of frozen broccoli and the boxes of stuffing mix would just sit there. Then repeat the next week. So now I really have a lot of food in my house. (Also when Abby was moving, she gave me lots of food from her cabinet that they wouldn’t have time to eat and she didn’t want to throw away.) :) So I have been trying meal planning. I have a notebook where I write out like a week of dinners and then at the bottom of the page I write down what I need to buy to make those meals. And I try to make the list looking around my kitchen and using what I already have. Mom gave me a bunch of coupons so I put those in the folder of the notebook so I take this to the store with me, and theoretically I can use any coupons I have. Anyway, all that to say, I only needed a few things, so I got to use the fun little cart. And I love the way HEB has buy one get free deals. mab talked about this the other day, their Combo Locos specifically. I bought a big box of corn dogs (not the healthiest thing ever, I know, but a good convenient dinner for me on Wednesdays when hub eats at church and I am tempted to get fast food) and got a free Strawberry Sara Lee Cheesecake! Yum yum! In fact, it is thawing on the counter right now, and here I go to eat me some cheesecake goodness!

Oh…and for all y’all Target-lovers out there, here is a good article on finding good deals there. My sweet hubby found this and sent it to me since he knows how much I like the store. Isn’t that nice? :)

Sweater Queen

2 February 2008

Today I had seven, count em, seven sweaters laying around in various places in the living room. (And three pairs of shoes. Somehow things are not walking themselves into my closet.)

I am sweater queen. I have one (or two) of every color. Most I try to buy in colors that coordinate with lots of things. The white sweatshirt jacket, the black cardigan, the jean jacket, the cream cable knit sweater, the cream fleece, the grey Baylor sweatshirt, the pink 3/4 length sweater…

I am actually the cold queen, cold everywhere I go. In the summers, I do not leave the house without something of the long sleeved variety. Because if I enter an establishment with air conditioning, I am sure to get cold, especially if it is a movie theatre, restaurant, or Baptist church. So this winter I have become more of a layer-er than in the past. So I usually have on something, with a sweater/sweatshirt over it, and then my nice warm corduroy jacket for good measure. Or for at least the first 15 minutes or so of my drive when it is cold. Then at the first stoplight I have to sit at, I remove the jacket. And I wear my nice warm isotoner gloves for most of the 45 minute ride.

I also like quilts. I don’t even have to be cold, it can be summer in Texas, and I will be on the couch under the blanket. Not just any blanket, I would prefer a nice soft, broken-in cotton blanket. My mother has one with a dark green fabric, with a pattern of flies on it. (I have never known why someone would make this pattern for fabric ever. They are tiny flies, look more just like spots than actual flies. Not gross or anything, just random.) But that is the BEST blanket ever! And I have a multicolored one that my parents bought me on a courthouse trip when I was in high school, and it just so happens to coordinate with my living room.

Anyway, this is a random post, but I went to put all the sweaters away and thought it was funny. :)
