Another swimsuit post

30 March 2009

So a friend passed on a site from another friend about a great cheap swimsuit. Land’s End apparently has an overstock part of their site and they have a good amount of swimsuits on there.

They had a lot of cute one pieces for around $15. It was kinda hard to find matching separates in my sizes because the sizes are a little sporadic but here is what I came up with.

swimtopIt arrived in the mail today and actually matches! :)

And for the low price of 9.99 for each! And this is a Land’s End swimsuit so it is normally like $80 for the top and $26.50 for the bottom! And it is SPF 50!

I also ordered these pink bottoms to have options and in case one or the other of the pink or yellow don’t match. The bottoms were only $5! I was worried the colors might not all go together because they are from different lines, but it worked out fine. They have a similar top as this in a black pattern too that would match any of the various solid color swim bottoms. I used the size guide where you actually measure yourself and it ended up working just fine.

You should go check it out! Click the pictures for the links or click here for the link to the general swimsuit overstock page.

“Animal Vegetable Miracle”

27 March 2009

I am reading a really good book right now by Barbara Kingsolver called Animal, Vegetable, Miracle.

It is about a year in which her family vowed that they would “abandon the industrial food pipeline, only buying food raised in their own neighborhood, grow it themselves, or learn to live without it”. It is so interesting! She is an excellent writer so it is funny but also very informative about gardening and farming. In one section she was talking about having dinner with some farmer friends. Everything they were eating came from that farm. She asked her friend how much food they had to buy from off the farm.

“‘Flour and sugar’ she said, and then she thought a little bit. ‘Sometimes we’ll buy pretzels, for a splurge.’ It crossed my mind that the world’s most efficient psychological evaluation would have just the one question. Define splurge. I wondered how many more years I’d have to stay off of Belgian chocolate before I could attain Elsie’s self-possession. I still wanted the moon, really- and I wanted it growing in my backyard.”

This book makes me want to do lots of things: buy only free-range meat, shop at a farmers market, plant a garden! If only I had more of a green thumb…

There is a giveaway going on over at http://www.5minutesforgiveaways.com/ for a Scott’s GroGood Garden Starter Kit. Click here to enter to win before April 10.

If you live near the west side of Houston and you have not been to the new outlet mall on 290, what are you waiting for??? The hub and I went the Friday of spring break and found some really good deals. It ruins me for going to a “normal store”! Check it out here!

Geometry Quiz

24 March 2009

smarterthansixthgraderWe just started our geometry unit! So fun! We get to do things like cut up magazines looking for geometric figures in real life photos. My classroom floor looks awful!

So here’s your quiz. Beware. These are tricky! No easy-peasy “what do you call two lines that never cross” kind of geometry questions here!

1. What is the difference between a parallelogram and a trapezoid?

2. True or False. All squares are rectangles.

3. True or False. All rectangles are squares.

4. Can a triangle have more than one obtuse angle?

5. What is a dodecagon?

I read a blog called “Sit a Spell” that is a friend of some friends and she always has good ideas. She recently posted about modest swimwear and the importance of that. And she found a great site with ADORABLE swimsuits that are more modest than stuff you find in the store. Check it out here!

"A While Ago"

19 March 2009

It is sad that in the blog stats area of my dashboard, it isn’t even recording how long since my last post or comment. It just says “a while ago”.

We have been busy around here lately! The hub just went on an 11 day trip to Kenya to distribute mosquito nets and school supplies and tell people the good news through that. A friend our ours went too. They had a great time and lots of good stuff went on. Then he had a week to readjust to the time zones and we had the spring break Galveston trip. Except we didn’t end up going to Galveston, but instead to Seabrook to work on some homes and take lots of goods to be sorted for Mission Galveston. It was a great trip and I had a good time getting to know some people in our church family that I didn’t previously know very well. So now we are taking the end of spring break to do absolutely nothing except sleep and eat and read. At least that is my plan. Maybe throw in a run to The Container Store because my pantry is driving me crazy! What I really need to do to fix it is give up going to the grocery store for the rest of lent and just cook stuff out of my pantry to use it all up to clear out some space! But you know, the couch with my laptop and the kitty sitting next to me all purringly happy is much more appealing right now than organzing my pantry!

Look at my nice hubby. He got this hat at a gas station on the east side of town at last spring break’s trip.

Yes I am wearing an aggie shirt. It is from high school days when I thought I might go there. I decided it could be come a paint sweatshirt.
