Flood!

28 April 2009

flood-011

We are…. flooded in! Again!

Here I am wearing my “We are… Hamilton! 100%” school shirt that I was supposed to wear today for the Math TAKS Test! But the west side of H town got flooded, our area getting like 10 or 11 inches of rain, most of that in 3 hours, or something like that. I woke up at 3:30 to hail and lightening and looked out to see our cul de sac flooded like after Hurricane Ike, but a little higher. You can see the debris line of how high it got. This was taken at like 10 am after it had receeded some. I called my principal at like 4 something to tell her I probably couldn’t get to work. I wouldn’t have called so early, but she is an earlier riser anyway and I figured she needed time to try to get a certified teacher for a sub so they could administer the test. I wondered if I would be the only one who couldn’t get there since I live pretty far from school, or if it was just as bad up there. But as I started watching the 5 am news, it became apparent that the rain was all over the west side and many districts closed for the day. I don’t know what this means for testing. Many grades had tests today, but TEA will have to decide what will happen about the missed test. At least this time we have had electricity, so “hunkering down” at home has been fun.

Galveston

One thing I like about taking trips with Tallowood is getting to know people I would not normally get to know. Like these two fun ladies and their families. We had a great trip, sorting clothes and working on houses. My sweet hub organized the whole thing, which he does a great job at!

Me with Curly Hair?

22 April 2009

tSo I have always had straight hair. Back in 05 I bought my first hair straightener. I bought it because, although my hair has always been pretty straight, just blow drying it didn’t make it totally straight. I still had some waves at the end, especially if I didn’t dry it 100%. And it tended to get the little frizzy stick ups everywhere. So I have straightened my hair just for that quick little polish most days the last four years. Well now, if I take a shower and wash it, and just take it out of the towel and do nothing else to it, it dries wavier than it ever has in my life! I don’t really know why or how but I kinda like it. Some days it works better than others and looks more curly than others. I can’t quite figure out the equation in that, if I should leave it in the towel longer or shorter. And I discovered that it will dry by the time school starts, so I can do this style on school days and not have to spend time drying my hair! :)

New Light Fixture

19 April 2009

How many people does it take to replace a light fixture?

light-fixture-005

At least four apparently (counting a photographer). And two pets. You can’t see Buddy. He is hiding. The ladder is scary. And, yes, I AM helping. I am holding a flashlight, since you can’t have the lights on when you are replacing them. Thanks for the help, mom and dad!

Yay for new light fixtures!

Home Group

Home Group is one of my favorite times of the week. I just enjoy our fellowship and the sense of Christian community so very much! I love that we spend time with each other, that we know what is going on in each others lives, and we can eat together, talk about random things together, talk about what we are learning about God together, and pray for each other. In college I had such a great experience with the part of the body of Christ that I met with on Wednesday nights called Crosstalk. I feel the same way about home group now. I read a blog post about community a while back and it had a lot of great comments about community. I don’t have a very good picture to sum up what home group looks and feels like except these couple of pictures from our house last week so here they are. Maybe since my hubby is so camera obsessed lately he will take some good ones in the weeks to come.
