Hello

29 August 2009

Well…I survived the first week of school. And let me tell you, it was tiring! It was like a flashback to my first year of teaching, when I came home and took a nap every night. I don’t know why except maybe for the fact that I went straight from staying up til 12 and sleeping til 10 to having to wake up at 6… but for some reason this week wore me out. But it is Saturday now and I slept really late today and plan to be lazy for the rest of the day, so that will be wonderful!

My friend mab is doing a giveaway here….

If you are looking for something to do, you could make and  send an IBOL.

I found this super cute link about an adorable dollhouse, and here are the instructions.

Oh, and my new chair was great!

Here’s to a comfy seat all year long

17 August 2009

Last summer I found this cute chair at Ross for $20.

white stool

I bought it to go beside my overhead, at the front of my classroom. Well…it is cute..but ended up not being all that comfortable since it doesn’t have a back. I don’t know why I didn’t buy a new one during the year last year, but I didn’t. Last Monday, I made it my goal to find a new one. After searching all over TJMaxx, Ross, and Tueday Morning with a budget of $20-25 (my usual stops for a good deal) I found this one at ikea for the low price of $16! Unfortunately it comes in 34 pieces. So the hubby’s job was to put it together.

It was so cheap, I even bought a cushion to tie on for added comfort. I thought I would share about my fun classroom purchase since today is my first offical day back for the year. Since it is so far away, I haven’t been up to work in my room all summer. I didn’t take much off the walls, and there isn’t much I am going to change about my organization/system from last year, so I figure I don’t really have that much to do. This week is teacher stuff, next Monday the kids come! Will I be ready????

TV!

15 August 2009

We finally got cable this week! We both had a weak moment at the same time! For months we have both been alternately trying to convince each other to sign up for cable. One of us would try to persuade the other, with the other remaining firm and strong. You know, trying to save money and all, besides neither of us need another way to waste time. But our weak day collided and away we went to the AT&T store. (And a recent reduction in some other bills added justification to this decision.) Yesterday it was installed. It is crazy. You can rewind and fast forward TV now. Welcome to 2009! I DVR’d some episodes of Clean Sweep from like 4 in the morning and watched them after I woke up. It was great! I am sad to say that I don’t think they are making new episodes of that show! Anyway, I have thoroughly enjoyed a day of TLC and HGTV. If you don’t see the hub or I much for the next few weeks, just come over and unplug the TV for us. hehe! Just kidding, I don’t think it will be that bad. But I thought I would take a moment and poll my readers….

What are the “must-see” shows on cable these days?

Get your car inspected!

14 August 2009

I am really bad at noticing that my car inspection is due. I always get it registered on time; they send you the thing in the mail! They should notify you of the inspection in the same way. I don’t ever look at the sticker! Well at the end of July, I realized that mine inspired in…July! It was a few days into August before I made a plan to get it done. I was leaving the church and making that U-turn under the freeway there, and right before I got all the way into the U-turn lane…I saw them…two motorcycle cops parked there in the shade, making the day of some unlucky drivers! Thankfully, I wasn’t totally in the lane yet, and no one was coming, so I could scoot over the the next lane which went through the light and turned left, thereby missing the watchful eye of the cops. Whew! I mean I could have pleaded with them, “Officer, really…I was ON MY WAY to get it inspected!” And it would be true, I really was on my way! But who would believe that story! I thought, I could even open up and boot up the laptop sitting in my passenger seat, to show them the google search I just conducted about the inspection stations nearest to my house. Maybe that would make them believe me. Probably not. I have heard that you have a 30 day grace period, so I probably wouldn’t have gotten a ticket, but still … gladly I didn’t have to do that. So a word to the wise…. get your cars inspected, and if yours is late, avoid U-turns!

Grilled cheese advice?

13 August 2009

So I am doing a reverse of my friend’s quesadilla post…I am seeking advice.

How do you make the perfect grilled cheese sandwich?
