The Lord is near to the brokenhearted

13 November 2009

Have you been wondering where I have been? Well I haven’t felt much like blogging lately, but I am hopefully back now. You see, it has been a rough past couple of months because I have had two miscarriages. Both were really early, 5 weeks and 7 or so weeks. But after spending some great time with God this week, I feel like I am ready to blog about his faithfulness during this time.

Our God is a God of comfort. The verse that has been most assuring to me is Psalm 34:18.

“The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit.”

That has been so true. God has been near to me in many ways, both through his word and people who have prayed for us and encouraged us as well. Over this past week, God has tied that verse to another verse for me.

Isaiah 61:1-3 says “The spirit of the Lord God is upon me, because the Lord has anointed me to bring good news to the poor; he has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to those who are bound; to proclaim the year of the Lords favor and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all who mourn; to grant to those who mourn in Zion-to give them a beautiful headdress instead of ashes, the oil of gladness instead of mourning, the garment of praise instead of a faint spirit; that they may be called oaks of righteousness, the planting of the Lord, that he may be glorified.”

Along with that goes a passage in 2 Corinthians 1: 3-4.

“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our afflictions, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.”

I have a peace and a hope for our future and for his timing in the expansion of our family. The verses I could list here that have ministered to my heart are just so numerous. As I look up one that I meant to share, I see three more on that page that were also special to me. Isaiah 55:8-10. Isaiah 54: 3 and 7 and 13. Psalm 34:19. Psalm 37: 3-7. Psalm 73:26 and 28. Psalm 127. Psalm 138:8. Psalm 43:1-5. Lamentations 3:22. Mark 4:40. Romans 8:1. 2 Timothy 2:13. 1 Thessalonians 5:24. James 5:8. Luke 6:38. Genesis 50:20. Romans 8:18 Psalm 55:22.

I write this post not to bring attention to myself and for anyone to say “oh, you’re doing great with all this”, because it is not me at all, but I write this solely to glorify God, for he has sustained me and comforted me and will do the same for you. May God receive glory for his wonderful love and comfort and mercy and grace! He has been, remains, and will be victorious.
