Make-up Question

31 January 2010

I am thinking about buying some new makeup. So I have two questions.

1. What type do you use-meaning: liquid/powder in one, or liquid foundation then powder, or just powder, or what?

2. What brand do you use? Anyone out there use something that is supposed to be organic or healthy for some special reason?

Thanks for the input!

12 (or so) weeks

30 January 2010

We had our appt on Thursday and it was so fun to see the baby! It was moving around and everything! I guess I didn’t think about it moving since I won’t be able to feel it for a while, but move it did! I think it can even do the worm, it was bouncing all around! Here is a shot of what we saw…

There really is a baby in there! Our last ultrasound was at 6.5 weeks so it was just a blur. So I think I was expecting a bigger blur, but it was so exciting to find that it looked like a baby! Its a little blurry, I took it with my phone from the printout picture. But you can see the head and body. The white that is near the face is a hand. The white at the other end is where the knees were bent which we could see more on the screen than you can in this picture. Modern technology is so amazing! We were going off a previous measurement of saying I was 11 weeks 6 days at that ultrasound, but it measured at 12 weeks 5 days, so who really knows? Anyway I am around 12 weeks or so and we all know that babies don’t usually come on due dates anyway so it doesn’t really matter to me.

Mom bought me some clothes from Motherhood. Here they are on the day I got them in the mail, which was a week or so ago at about 11 weeks.

I have worn the maternity pants some since my dress pants don’t really fit too well. For some reason I feel like I am supposed to wait as long as possible to wear maternity clothes, but really I just want to wear them now! I figure I should get the most use as possible out of them, right? And I bought a Be Band (Target version of Bella Band) but it is kinda tight, so not super comfortable. So what’s the vote, when did you girls start wearing maternity clothes?

Details!

I know some of you ladies out there might be wondering more fun stuff about our little one, so here goes.

We found out in December that we are expecting, so that made for a fun Christmas. I had suspected for a few days, so I bought a digital test that actually says the word “pregnant” or “not pregnant” because I did not want to be squinting to see if there was a line or plus sign or whatever. I just wanted to know!

We got to see this sweet little picture right before the holidays.

baby

That blob inside the circle (which is the gestational sac) is our baby at 6 1/2 weeks! It kinda looks like the outline of a little person, but really the top part is the yolk sac or something and only the bottom part is the baby. We could see a flickering little heart beat at that one which was so neat!

Then last week, on Monday Jan 18th, we heard the heartbeat! It was a strong 160 bpm! It sounded so cool! The hubby recorded it on his iphone so we can listen to if we want to.

I haven’t felt too awful. Mostly I have felt queasy when I start to get hungry, so I try not to let myself get hungry, so that means it feels like I eat about every two or three hours! I have felt a little gaggy at times. And sometimes my stomach just feels unsettled and churning and just generally yucky. But I haven’t thrown up so that is good! I probably felt the sickest the two weeks I was off from school so that is a blessing that I didn’t have to go to work those days. I am also feeling pretty tired and sluggish. But yet can’t sleep very well! If I take a nap, then I wake up at 3 and can’t get good rest. Preparation for waking up all hours of the night I guess!

My principal likes to announce things like babies and engagements and such at our big meetings at the first day of school and the first day back after Christmas, so she asked if she could announce that and so she did. So every person I see at school asks “how are you feeling?” The students don’t know yet though. Any teachers out there want to share if you told your students or just let them figure it out???

Let’s see, what other things are people asking….

What do I think it is? Well at the beginning I was thinking it was a girl. Even thinking she might have blonde hair like her daddy did when he was little. But I don’t know for sure. I think I would lean towards wanting a girl since I am a girly girl but it would be neat for the oldest child to be a boy too. Of course I don’t really care, just want a healthy little one!

Are we going to find out what it is? YES!!!! I am a planner and I would like to know what colors of things to buy! I went to Target the other day and wanted to buy something cute for baby, but the yellow and green neutral stuff didn’t look as cute as the other stuff so I decided to wait.

Tomorrow I go for the nuchal translucency scan, which is just an ultrasound where they look at some stuff like the fluid in the baby’s neck to check for issues, and also do a blood test. I am just excited for another ultrasound! And I think this one gets to be the one on my stomach instead of…the other one… yeah that’s not as fun, some of you know what I am talking about.

Well that is all I can think of to tell you. We feel so blessed for a healthy pregnancy! Thank you to all of you who have been praying for us. The Lord has really given a sense of peace and I have not been worried, which is the opposite of my usual nature, so I know that is from the Lord. Thanks!!

P.S…..Don’t forget….if you are going to sign up for mvelopes, you have to sign up by Sunday January 31st to get the 25% off discount!

Goals met!

16 January 2010

In January of 2008 I p0sted the following financial goals:

Goals for the new year: Being a good steward of money

Our main goal is to pay off student loans, and stay debt-free other than those loans. If/When we have to buy a car, we don’t want a lot of debt with that.

Pay off my loan totally by August
Pay $X a month towards it

Set up a savings account to pay off Hubby’s loans
Get a good interest rate
Snowflake” any saved money into it
After August, pay $X a month into it
Pay any tax refund towards loans

Buy a car and pay off within a year or pay cash
Research a good deal
Put money in a car fund each month

Put money away for home owner’s association dues every month.

And I am happy to report that, two years later.. in 2010, I can say that we met all of these goals! Praise God for that blessing! We didn’t manage to meet them as soon as I intended, but I am very thankful to say that we did meet them eventually. Mvelopes did help us do this, so don’t forget to sign up by January 31st to get a good deal. Click here to read my blog post about it.

New goals for 2010:

  1. Continue to be debt free (except the one monster student loan that is left)
  2. Continue to save towards year end goals like HOA dues and Christmas money
  3. Save money each month to pay in a big lump towards the monster loan

Ode to the garage

4 January 2010

The place we now live is the first place in my life that has afforded me the luxury of a garage. I feel like I may have blogged about this before. Sorry if I have. I realize this won’t be that exciting of a post to most of you. Especially if you have always lived with a garage.

I love having a garage. I love having a garage door opener. We got ours for Christmas a few years ago. A silly present to ask for it might seem, but so worth it! Today it was really cold when I went to the grocery store. And the wind was blowing! I thought my fingers would freeze to the shopping cart as I was walking to my car. But when I got home, I backed my Wheezer into the garage and proceeded to unload my groceries in relative warmth. It was awesome. So I just thought I should take a minute to thank the Lord for the simple pleasure of a garage.
