Versatile pieces for your maternity wardrobe

Versatile pieces for your maternity wardrobe

Before I was pregnant, I bought this skirt from Target:

black jersey skirtIt is kinda hard to tell, but it is just a jersey skirt, with a fold down top. It has turned out to be great, because it is a good maternity skirt too since it is so stretchy!  I also have a pair of these jersey gauchos in brown:

gauchosand the same is true of them since they are all stretch. Really anything that is stretchy at the top could potentially make the transition into maternity gear. I have this blue skirt that I have had for about 4 years

and it still works great because the entire top is elastic. So I would recommend buying these type items if you are pregnant, or not yet but maybe soon to be, because you will get a lot of use out of them!

Vacation Post 1

Vacation Post 1

We had a great “babymoon” in Destin last week!

I am going to post a few pictures at a time instead of one big post.

Here is the view out our patio! There was some of the softest grass imaginable, a little landscaping, a sidewalk, a small two lane road, and then you go through that little white arbor to stairs down to the beach! It was awesome! If you go on a beach vacation, I highly recommend staying within viewing and walking distance of the beach. Then there is no lugging gear and sandy feet into a car to drive to a beach.

We stayed in a first floor condo of a place called Beach Retreat which was to the east of the main busy part of Destin. It was really nice that it was on the first floor because you could just walk out of the patio and go to the beach. There was also a pool which was nice.

Here is the patio.

We rented a two bedroom and our wonderful friends Jon and Lydia came and stayed with us most of the week, and then my sweet parents stayed with us the last two nights. (This particular place we had to rent for a week, but most places offer it by the night too. We found it on homeaway.com. It ended up being cheaper to rent a condo than a hotel, and when you cook some of your own meals in the kitchen, your food budget is cheaper too than eating out every meal.) We even got a beach umbrella and two chairs with the rental. You can see the Beach Retreat building in the background to the left.

Plastic Risks?

Plastic Risks?

I recently read this article in Time Magazine called “The Perils of Plastic” (Here is another link). It talks about how so many industrial chemicals are used in everyday products that we come into contact with and explores possible links between these things and the ills that face our modern society saying

Chemicals like bisphenol A (BPA) and phthalates — key ingredients in modern plastics — may disrupt the delicate endocrine system, leading to developmental problems. A host of modern ills that have been rising unchecked for a generation — obesity, diabetes, autism, attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder — could have chemical connections.

I just wondered what you all think of that. Lately it has made me want to choose a glass to drink out of over these plastic cups that I keep running through the dishwasher and using. I don’t know how much is true and how much is hype, but it does puzzle me that we have things like autism and ADHD so rampant in our society now, when those things weren’t around a long time ago, or at least if they were just undiagnosed then, there didn’t seem to be as much of it. I would love to hear what you think of this. Talk amongst yourselves.

Tervis Tumblers

Tervis Tumblers

Have you heard of these?

tervis tumblerThis is a Tervis Tumbler. It is a really fun cup that keeps things cold or hot and doesn’t sweat. They are very durable and have a lifetime guarantee. They are made in the USA (Florida) and are dishwasher, microwave, and freezer safe. Some friends of mine had them and liked them so my amazing husband got me this one (but in red) for Valentine’s day with a lid. I have used it to take to work every day since. There are various lid/straw combinations that you can buy, so you can drink hot things like coffee from them or cool things like ice water. They have lots of them at Bed, Bath and Beyond, but other places carry them too, or you can order online. I just ordered this for the sweet hubby.

tervis baylorYou can barely see it, but its logo is this:

which can be hard to find! But they have TONS of designs and also various sizes. I don’t know if the Tervis Tumbler people might find this blog and want to send me a free one or something, but if they do, I would be up for that. :)
