Where to start?

16 September 2010

I think I am overwhelmed at what to blog about life with a little one. She is 5 weeks old now!!! Crazy. I will blog the story of the day she was born. At some point. For now, I will try to summarize. We are doing well.

  • I feel good. (At least all things related to the delivery feel good. These two weird things are going on, a rash on my legs, and a sore stomach muscle, but neither of which are related to baby…except that the nursing chair is probably giving me a rash, and my stomach muscles are sore from trying to stand out of said chair with a sleeping baby in my arms without moving her enough to wake her… sigh.) But I have been pleasantly surprised at how well other things have healed and how I am within 10 lbs of the weight I was before pregnancy (although that was higher than I would have liked..). I can even put on and fasten some pre-pregnancy pants (although they are a little too tight to comfortably wear anywhere).
  • Pumpkin is doing well. She is eating well. I thought she was having some latch issues because it hurt and she was making this clicky noise with her tongue, but relatching her never seemed to fix it. But it seems like she has mostly figured it or corrected it somehow because that doesn’t happen as much any more. She usually goes a stretch of 5 hours at night between feedings, which I appreciate. Sometimes she takes quite a while to go to sleep, sometimes she goes to sleep easily.
  • We are getting out some. We took at trip to Waco a few weekends ago to visit the great grandparents, so that gave me more confidence to do little trips like church or Target. I try to plan to feed her and then let her fall asleep in the car on the way to wherever, and then she usually sleeps through whatever we are doing. I am keeping her in her car seat so a lot of people don’t touch or try to hold her since she hasn’t had her shots yet. I can definitely tell that I am more nervous going out with her though, and am usually tense the whole time that she will wake up and cry and not stop and I will just have to leave. She doesn’t have a lot of awake time where she just sits and enjoys the situation. Not that she is an unhappy baby, she just gets tired from all the work it is being a cute little growing person and then wants to sleep some more!

It is funny that whole mommy brain thing. It is like it is hard to carry on a conversation if she is with me because I am thinking things like “what was that noise? was that her? is it time to eat again? oh gosh…stay asleep!” And the cycle of eat, burp, diaper, sleep, repeat just all runs together after a while. I try to describe my day to someone but can’t remember what it was I did all day. Or which day was which. I have thought of some blog topics, only to forget them about 5 minutes later.

Things are just different with a little person. I think I will eat out less now just for the sheer effort it is to get ready and take her with me to go get something. We watched a movie tonight and had to stop to go reinsert the pacifier about 10 times and feed once in the middle. Her biggest hunger cue is that I am about to eat something, and then she will decide she needs to do the same. You can put a bet on it.

Her daddy is great. He loves her a lot and thinks she is awesome. He is a big proponent of taking pictures so we have lots. If you don’t have our flickr account, email me and I will send it to you so you can see them. Here are a few for now.
