A Big Girl

20 December 2011

One of the most fun parts of E getting big is watching her begin to play. I love to watch her! She obviously has something going on and some plan about what she is doing because she is so purposeful.

She is a good little momma! Here she is, trying to put her hat on her bear which she had me swaddle so it could go “night night”. Yes, the bear is already wearing a hat.  She also pats their back and hugs them. (Please ignore the cobwebs in my corner!)

She is loving her little nativity set. She has transported them to the tile and set them up. Gracie is watching skeptically.

This is her spot in the living room where she plays. This suede ottoman has been so great for kids, whether as a trampoline at home group or as E’s table.

Aren’t her pj’s cute? Gotta love carter’s! When we are home all day, she stays in her pjs til after her first nap. Gotta get some use out of the Christmas jammies!

Weekend

19 December 2011

What a fun weekend!

On Friday we had a nice day at home for most of the day. I have been checking out books from the library lately, but it is hard to browse with a squirmer on your hip so I had an ingenious idea. Holds! No, not ask someone to hold my child for me, :) but ask someone to hold books for me. I went through my goodreads, where I have stored ideas of books I want to read, and searched for those books on my library’s online website and put in a hold request for several. So on Friday I got an email saying that 5 of them were ready for pick up. During E’s first nap I went to try to get them, only to find out that the library doesn’t open til 1 on Fridays!

So we all went back later and got them. When we walked in, who did we happen to see, but some friends dressed up like Santa and mrs. Claus! E had her first intro to Santa but wanted nothing to do with him, unfortunately. I snapped a pic with C’s phone but it isn’t even worth posting.

Then that night we had our sunday school class Christmas party. We played some fabulous games including the White Elephant game. In the words of Desi…we hit an all time low. Some gifts were ones that were from previous years, and some were not, but they were almost all bad. Usually in white elephant there is something that people want to steal, but not this year. And the #1 person put her gift back in the middle at the end and NO ONE wanted it! So we kept stealing things until most things were locked, only because no one wanted that gift. Someone finally had mercy and ended it.

Saturday we went to a party for my extended family and it was so fun to see everyone. E had fun playing with some second cousins. Then yesterday we had church and grabbed lunch on the way home. Then we napped! I love the glorious moment when you crawl in the covers and snuggle down, ready to fall asleep! Unfortunately, E woke up like a bear. I don’t know what happened but she truly woke up on the wrong side of the crib and nothing would make her happy. We went to a great performance at church last night and now I am blogging instead of wrapping presents!

What did you do this weekend?

Pros and Cons of Pinterest

17 December 2011

Things I love about pinterest:

  • good recipes. I have made yummy peanut butter cup brownies, and buttermilk blueberry bread off there so far.
  • easy and cute craft ideas
  • pretty pictures

Things I don’t love about pinterest:

  • Sometimes it doesn’t seem like it has updated much. Is that because the people I follow haven’t pinned much lately? What is up with you people?
  • Pinning lots of things that I will never do.
  • When someone pins a picture but doesn’t like it to the exact post on someone’s blog, but just their whole blog, so you can never find what they linked to.
  • The recent activity on the side never updates. Does anyone else have that happen?
  • Can we say “time suck”?

Starbucks Posting

15 December 2011

So I am sitting here at Starbucks with my computer. Does that mean my posts will automatically come out witty and well-worded like Lindsey‘s?

I bet that it won’t. Especially since it is the end of the day, a day filled with lots of yelling (by E and myself) and I don’t know that I will be able to form a well thought out post, so instead I will post tidbits.

  • The other day C was telling me how I could do something. I don’t remember what it was. Or maybe I was telling him how to do something. This is more likely the case. But I had a brilliant tidbit of wisdom come to me. “Marriage: the joy of a lifetime of giving unsolicited (albeit helpful) advice.”
  • Some stranger in Starbucks just commented me on my pink laptop. It is beside my pink phone. Favorite color, much?
  • Am I correct in deducing that gray nail polish is trendy? Because I just bought some and I think it is fun. It would be nice to know that I am now in style too.
  • I am sitting near a group who is having a Bible study here at Starbucks. It is not a bad idea. Filling the air with words of hope for others to hear. Perhaps some will sink in where needed most.
  • I have had a hard time being in the spirit this season. I don’t know why exactly. I had grand plans to some sort of advent thing but it didn’t happen. And plans to make several gifts. And I always want to get everyone the perfect gift. With the best price out there. I think I put too much expectation on myself. Can anyone relate to that? Trying to take a deep breath in that area and simplify. I cut back on some of the gift ideas and returned the craft supplies to just buy already made gifts.
  • There have been two things about the season that have been particularly nice. It has given me great joy however to watch E play with her Little People nativity. She knows which one Jesus is. She has such fun setting up her little scene and moving them around. And I like to turn on the tree lights and the little ceramic tree that was C’s grandmothers and let it light up the house.
  • I am tired now and about to go home. Hope you have a great day! :)

Joel 2: 12-14

12 “Even now,” declares the LORD,
“return to me with all your heart,
with fasting and weeping and mourning.”

13 Rend your heart
and not your garments.
Return to the LORD your God,
for he is gracious and compassionate,
slow to anger and abounding in love,
and he relents from sending calamity.
14 Who knows? He may turn and relent
and leave behind a blessing—
grain offerings and drink offerings
for the LORD your God.

Winner Winner Chicken Dinner

10 December 2011

I have won two things off blogs recently!

The other day I happened to be perusing google reader via my button on my tool bar and happened to read a blog from Rage Against the Minivan (which mab got me interested in) right as she posted it. It was about shutterfly Christmas cards and right at the bottom in small print she said that the first three commenters would get 25 free cards, and I was FIRST!

Then I entered a contest on Simple Mom for a book and I happened to win it too! (Although she spelled my name wrong, but oh well.)

Have you won anything lately?

Pinteresting

8 December 2011

Heard of pinterest? It is a virtual bulletin board/bookmark for pictures of great things you find on the internet. I got an email from the founders of pinterest on Thanksgiving, thanking me for being a memeber and saying how it was only two years that they thought of the idea. I don’t know if they are rich now or what but it is so popular I am sure they must be.  Can you imagine having an idea and being able to Mark Zuckerburg-it into a web sensation?

Anywhoo, I recently tried to make a craft off pinterest. I have made a recipe off pinterest before. These are delish! But I had yet to do one of the many crafts. Anyone out there copy me? Unfortunately it was a bust. I would post about it exactly, but I might still try to salvage the idea for Christmas gifts for a few people so I can’t go into detail.

Have any of you out there made a craft off pinterest and would you please link to it?
